Everyone remembers prom. All the preparation weeks before, picking the right dress or tuxedo, getting the corsages and boutonnieres, and the girls getting makeup and hair done while the boys prepare to ride up to them in style, the hours of photo taking before hand, the grand march, the dance, and finally, some fun with the after-prom.
This year’s prom at Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton featured 42 couples (and some friends pairing up) for a total of 84 students who enjoyed all of the joys of prom on Saturday, May 4. This year’s theme was “Midnight in the Garden,” and sophomores Kwynn Krause and Chase Gerdts were the masters of ceremonies.
The line of parents, family, and friends waiting to see the students in the grand march stretched from the high school gym entrance to outside, several feet from the front entrance. The grand march took place at 6:30 p.m., with everyone gathering for photos afterward, including several athletes on the various JWP sports teams throughout the year.
Following the grand march was a dance in the auditorium. Later that night, the students enjoyed a few hours of fun at Topgolf in Brooklyn Center before returning home very late (about 2:30 in the morning).
This year’s prom was made possible by the following sponsors: Janesville State Bank and Agency, Oliver Farm Drainage, Frechette Trucking, Johnson Construction, GreenCare, Borneke Construction, Smith’s Mill, Taher Foods, Mankato Motors, Andy Arnoldt, Palmer Bus Service, and Medo Township. This year’s prom committee, headed by Lisa Crockett, included juniors Brielle Bure, Sophia Coulsey, Brielle Dessner, Hope Dimmel, Madyn Holland, Presley James, Ellah Oliver, Lilly Strauss, Autumn Thissen, Claire Walz, Paige Walz, and Aubrey Weedman.
Extra helpers included Superintendent Jeremy Erler, Mike Daschner, the JWP custodial staff, Annette Bure, the Parent Prom Committee, Nancy Hartfiel, Jenise Peterson, the JWP National Honor Society, High School Principal David Rysdam, Teagan Knoblich, and Nicci Malecha.
It was thanks to everyone’s involvement that JWP had a successful prom to remember.
Photos of the couples in this year’s prom will be in a special section of this week’s paper. All photos by Michael Roy.
