Though a highly competive meet, JWP conceded to Triton 185-173. Garret Reinhardt secured a third-place finish with a score of 42. Jeffrey Simonson dropped three straight pars against Triton.
On a picturesque Thursday afternoon, April 16th, the fairways of Prairie Ridge Golf Course played host to a Gopher Conference showdown between the Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton (JWP) Bulldogs and the Triton Cobras. While the Bulldogs ultimately fell to the Cobras in the overall team standings, 185–173, the day was marked by standout individual performances—most notably from sophomore Garret Reinhardt.
Despite a stubborn wind that challenged players on several holes, the conditions remained ideal for competitive golf. Reinhardt, playing in the second seed, led the charge for JWP by securing a third-place finish with a solid overall score of 42.
Reinhardt’s afternoon was defined by a spectacular recovery on the fifth hole. Through the first four, the sophomore was holding steady at par, but the 516-yard fifth hole proved to be the highlight of his young season. Both Reinhardt and junior teammate Jeffrey Simonson (the Bulldogs’ top seed) faced early trouble on the hole following skewed drives. However, showing remarkable poise, both Bulldogs recovered with precision shots that put them within putting distance as they approached the green.
Simonson capitalized on the momentum to sink his third consecutive par. Reinhardt went one better, sinking a birdie—his first of the season—to ignite the JWP bench.
The late-round surge propelled the JWP leaders into the top tier of the leaderboard. While Reinhardt claimed the third spot, Simonson and freshman third-seed Evan Mulcahey finished in a dead heat, tying for fourth place overall. The Cobras’ consistency across their lineup secured them the victory, but the Bulldogs’ performance, particularly the resilient play of their underclassmen, offers a bright outlook for the remainder of the Gopher Conference schedule.
There is still plenty of time on the links for these Bulldogs to improve their game and will have three opportunities this week to reach the top of the leaderboard. They’ll travel to Kenyon Country Club on April 20, return to Prairie Ridge for an April 23 dual against NRHEG before ending the week with an Invitational at Blooming Prairie on April 25.
