Though the harvesting season is drawing to a close and the first hard freeze has already set in, it doesn’t mean we can’t show support for our farmers after a long harvesting season.
Trinity Lutheran School’s PTL sponsored its annual “Feed a Farmer” event on Sunday, November 3, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church Discipling Center. The event raises funds for the school while showing support for the farmers.
“It’s always a great event for us,” said volunteer Tina Schoenfeld. “Last year, we expected to sell about 250 meals, and we nearly did that last year. We hope to top that this year.”
Although the event’s name may suggest the meal is promoted toward farmers only, Schoenfeld said everyone was welcome. “We always encourage as many people as possible to come.”
The meal was the classic stick-to-your-rib staple: the commercial, with the choice of turkey for $11 or roast beef for $13. The meal included sides of green beans, pumpkin bars, and a lemonade. Patrons were welcome to sit and enjoy their meal while encouraged to take a meal to a farmer who may still be working in the fields. Those wishing to get their meals delivered must have pre-scheduled a meal ahead of time and ordered a minimum of four meals.
Although the Journal had arrived at the event near its beginning, volunteers were already rushing pre-packed meals out the door. As church service for Trinity concluded, the Discipling Center was busy with many enjoying the commercial meals.
