Janesville kids and parents banded together, wore their best costumes, and hit Main Street for Uptown Frights and Delights on Thursday, October 24. Several businesses along Main Street, from Ginger P. Designs to the Janesville Fire Department, handed out candy to the hundreds of kids who went through the streets to get the trick-or-treating started a week before Halloween.
Those with enough courage to go off the beaten path were rewarded with even more candy and trinkets from businesses like Dane’s Body Shop, Heartland Healthcare, Fit Time, and Summers Ridge Vet Clinic. The Waseca County Sheriff’s Office even appeared with their mascot, a miniature horse dressed up as a unicorn. Sparky was also paying a visit to the Janesville Fire Department.
While the Main Street trick or treating occurred from 4-6 p.m., the Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton FCCLA hosted a Halloween Party in the high school gym from 5-7 p.m. Children of all ages were welcome and enjoyed games like “Pin the Nose on the Witch,” several Halloween-themed toss games, a putting game, and crafts like make-your-own cookies and face painting.
During the party, the FCCLA donated monetary and non-perishable food to the Janesville Area Food Shelf.
While the weather did threaten to end the festivities early, the Main Street trick-or-treating wrapped up just in time as thunderstorms rolled in. It was a good thing the party at the school was going on for another hour! It was a great evening of frights and delights before the big night of collecting all the candy there was in Janesville on Halloween.
