It’s the final stretch before the school year begins at Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton. On Wednesday, August 28, the district held an open house from 3-5 p.m. for students to get information on classes, parents to get information on what their children need for supplies, and other general information about different programs and resources available.
A cardboard cutout of a bulldog with additional props greeted the students and their families out front, making for a fun photo opportunity. Many staff members, including social workers, interventionists, and other teachers, were among the first to welcome students as they walked into the commons. And if any high schoolers or new students were looking for a tour of the building, senior National Honor Society members were more than willing to guide them.
For those on the elementary side, art and music teachers Taylor Sonnek and Erin Nordstrom were ready to provide information and a fun activity for the little ones. They had a table with hearts made of construction paper and a banner that students were encouraged to sign.
As nearly all the staff in the commons said, the open house was more “lowkey” as students said hello to awaiting teachers welcoming them back into the building. By the time this paper comes out, JWP students will be in the classroom nearly every day until the end of May.
