On Saturday August 10th, Waseca welcomed back “Happy Days in Waseca”, an event that has not been held since the nineteen eighties. Peggy Zinniel and her husband were inspired by a television show to bring about something that could bring the community together, as well as boost the local economy. Through the cooperation of many Waseca businesses, such as Realty Executives, Club 57 and Kelm’s BBQ, Zinniel and the town of Waseca were able to host a good show.

The main attraction for “Happy Days in Waseca” was a car roll-in on the north side of Club 57. There was a myriad of vehicles registered for the event, including classic car and tantalizing trucks. While it was the inaugural year for the event, “Happy Days in Waseca” was held in June as well, with 85 vehicles in attendance then. August’s event had over thirty vehicles by early noon. Those who registered their vehicles for the show did so with the help of ShaLee Ebertowski and the volunteers from Realtor Executives. All visitors could enjoy food from the many food trucks, participate in the corn hole tournament or enjoy a snow cone while listening to one of the local bands performing at the show: In a Bind opened the show at noon. There was a raffle for people to take part in that included prizes donated by local vendors; one being a gift card for a brisket mac and cheese from Kelm’s BBQ.
Though they were competing against other car shows in the area, “Happy Days in Waseca” did as it set out to do, it brought the community together. Zinniel hopes to keep the event a yearly happening, and the positive responses from vendors and the community have certainly given “Happy Days in Waseca” traction. The Waseca Chamber of Commerce and Zinniel would appreciate further support, so those interested in volunteering or participating in 2025’s event should contact the Waseca Chamber of Commerce or Zinniel on Facebook.
