With the recent construction projects at the school district and promises of future development for the elementary school, the playground that had kept generations of elementary students swinging, crawling, and climbing experienced its own series of changes. Although the old playground equipment was still in serviceable condition, the district decided to craft a new play area for elementary students on a fresh patch of land; the new playground was unveiled on October 23rd to a crowd of students eager to play.
Principal Nadine Holland played a pivotal role in both the planning and the ceremonial cutting of the ribbon of the playground which had been moved to an open space near the eastern end zone of the football field. Updated slides, monkey bars, seesaws, and other familiar equipment graced the playground with new additions, including a court for “Gaga Ball”, would be later installed for the kids to enjoy.
It was an exciting time for the staff, students, and parents who came to observe the opening day of the playground as each recess period experienced a ceremony of their very own. Holland was thrilled to see the jubilation in the student’s faces as they ran toward their favorite piece of equipment and laughter filled the air as elementary kids went down the slides.
So far, the playground has been a welcome addition for the elementary school and it will provide future generations with a plethora of ways to enjoy recess…oh, how I miss recess.
