St. Clair High School had one of its main highlights of homecoming Tuesday afternoon, October 8: the coronation.
This year, Bergan Loeffler was given the queen’s tiara, while Shamon Williams donned the king’s crown. Joining them as attendants are Nealy Barna, Grace Freitag, Maria Miller, Hannah Odegard, Morgan Roemhildt, Lincoln Froehlich, Daultin Lotton, Danny Nicolai, Rhyleigh Peterson, and Conner VanErdewyk.
The MCs for this year’s homecoming coronation were Will Wellman and Ben Terry. Wellman especially poured it on, and he ran onto the stage with energy and got the crowd excited for the coronation. The candidates were paired as follows: Nealy Barna, escorted by Daultin Lotton; Grace Freitag, escorted by Shamon Williams; Bergan Loeffler, escorted by Rhyleigh Peterson; Maria Miller, escorted by Lincoln Froehlich; Hannah Odegard, escorted by Conner VanErdewyk; and Morgan Roemhildt, escorted by Danny Nicolai.
Introductions allowed the audience to get to know the candidates a little better. Questions the candidates were asked for their coronation were centered around the board game theme for this year’s homecoming, including their favorite game, who was the most competitive of the candidates, and who was most likely to cheat.
The general consensus seemed to be that Miller was the most competitive. However, it seemed like a roast session when it came to who was most likely to cheat, as many believed that VanErdewyk would be most likely to cheat, with Lotton’s name also being thrown in the mix. If Miller had her way, though, no one would cheat on her watch.
There was one heartwarming story out of all the candidates. Another question asked of the candidates was their proudest achievement. King Williams responded that his weight loss was his proudest achievement. Kudos to him for achieving a goal many struggle with completing!
The hopeful king and queen candidates played a game of “Guess the Candidate,” where the audience got to know them even more…maybe a little too much. They found out that Froehlich had a phase where he wore nothing but bowties, Lotton caught a goose with his bare hands (but not without getting bit), and a particular candidate was nicknamed “Little Bratwurst.” We’ll let you readers guess who that was.
Homecoming festivities will continue throughout the week. Instead of the traditional Friday pep fest, St. Clair opted to have theirs on the same day as the football game, which fell on a Thursday this year. In the spirit of the board game-themed dress-up days, the students will dress up in their best “Twister” outfits, bring the spirit to Spirit Day, and fight for class superiority in “Battleship Day,” where students will dress in their class colors: seniors in black, juniors in blue, sophomores in red, freshmen in pink, 8th graders in purple, and 7th grade in yellow. To cap off homecoming festivities, the juniors and seniors will face off in “Beefcake Volleyball” for the boys and “Powderpuff Football” for the girls. The volleyball and football games will prove who’s “Got Game.” There will be other daily activities throughout the week as the Cyclones storm through their homecoming.
