We reported last week that the JWP boys’ golf team had a 35-stroke lead after day one of the Section 2A tournament at North Links Golf Course near North Mankato.
With the tournament concluding on Monday, June 3, we are happy to give the update you’ve all been waiting for: the JWP Bulldogs are Section 2A champions for the second straight year!
On the first day of the tournament, Tuesday, May 28, the boys had a strong morning and afternoon of golf as they shot a collective 306 overall. In Second was United South Central with 341, with New Ulm and Sleepy Eye United tying for third at 343.
Logan Thell and Jeffrey Simonson led the team with 76, tying for second place overall against their section rivals. Steven Dimmel and Alex James were tied for fifth with a 77. Carter Miller was seventh with an 82, with Ryan Kronbach hanging on to a top-40 position with a 95.
There was a shift in places on the second day of the tournament. New Ulm Cathedral jumped ahead of United South Central and broke its type of Sleepy Eye United with a 674, while the Rebels settled for third with 384. SEU took fourth with 700.
What didn’t change was the Bulldogs’ firm hold of first place. They played about the same as the first day, only increasing their lead by one stroke, but finishing strong with a 638.
The boys traveled to Pebble Creek Golf Course in Becker on Tuesday, Jule 11-12 for the State Tournament, where they will face the best of the best for a chance to bring home some hardware. Good luck, boys!
