It’s no secret that the wind and the rain have made it a demanding spring for all Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton teams to power through. But none have been affected more than the golf teams.
Up to this point, half of the eight meetings initially scheduled as of May 2 have either been postponed or canceled, including one of only two home meets on Friday, April 26. These meets were the ones that the Journal planned on going to for photo taking. So, if you need someone to blame for the weather, you can try to blame us. We’ll talk to Mother Nature about May.
The teams’ other home meeting this past Thursday, May 2, was also in danger of being postponed or canceled. But JWP, Triton, and Randolph were determined to push through, even with nearly every inch of the course waterlogged and ponding in low-lying areas at Prairie Ridge Golf Course.
Although we have not received any official stats from the meets JWP has had so far this season, we received positive news about all the team’s golfers. The boys have allegedly won every meet, and that wouldn’t be surprising with the bits we saw from the golfers. The best golfers are the same as last year: senior Logan Thell, senior Steven Dimmel, and freshman Jeffrey Simonson. This year, Dimmel and Simonson have had friendly competition for top spots at the meets. Other varsity golfers have looked great, too, including girls’ golfers Hope Dimmel and Abby Balzotti.
Weather pending, the golfers will participate in the Gopher Conference meet at North Links Golf Course outside North Mankato on Thursday, May 9. The boys will also play at an invite at Le Sueur County Club on May 10.
